My name is Maddy Agar and I am so excited to be your child's kindergarten teacher this year! I have wanted to be a teacher ever since I was four years old. I had caring, passionate, and dedicated teachers growing up, which only made me want to be a teacher even more! I will never forget my kindergarten teacher, who sparked my love for reading and books. She loved sunflowers, and shared the book, Sunflower House, by Eve Bunting, with us, which is my favorite picture book. I definitely recommend checking it out from the library! 

Kindergarten is an AMAZING year of growth and is such an important time in a child's life. My "Why" for teaching is to bring joy to the children I teach every day. I want each one of my students to know that they are valued and cared about, and that they have unique talents and strengths that they can share with the world! One of my favorite quotes is Maya Angelou's, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." My hope for each of my students is that they love learning and find the joy in it that I always have! You will hear lots of singing and playing in our classroom, as well as see children making many mistakes as they try new things, challenge themselves, and grow!

I graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2016, with a major in Psychology. I completed my teacher education program at the same time through Saint Mary's College, across the street from ND. I took minor courses in Early Childhood Education, as well. My dream has always been to teach kindergarten! I student taught kindergarten, then taught first grade in a private school for a year. I substituted in Worthington for a year in hopes of teaching in this amazing district (I subbed for two maternity leaves - one for a reading teacher, and one for a third grade teacher). This will be my third year teaching and second year teaching kindergarten, and I could not be more excited!

I just celebrated my two year anniversary with my husband, Jeff, who I met while in college. I grew up in Maryland, and my husband grew up in Kansas. We love Ohio because it's almost right in the middle! We love traveling together! In my free time, I like to read and exercise!
